EXFOLIATE AND SLOUGH AWAY DULL END OF SUMMER SKIN!

Sunlight does more than just tan our skin, it also gives important vital vitamins, clears skin from breakouts and opens pores, and sometimes heals some skin conditions. Sort of like a natural exfolient, new skin cells turn over quicker in the summer too, which is also helpful in giving the skin a healthy summer glow.

WHAT’S EXFOLIATING?

The process of removal of the dead outer cells is known as exfoliation. Exfoliators or skin sloughers, are speedy skin improvers. Usually they come as a scrub (granular like texture) or in a cream containing acids (such as alpha hydroxy or fruit acids). The most commonly known exfoliaters are scrubs. You may have tried or used apricot or walnut scrubs commonly found at drug stores. Exfoliating has many benefits to the skin. By removing the dead cells from the surface of the skin, your skin becomes smoother and brighter in seconds. They also help skin that is prone to age or dark spots stay clearer, and increases the cell turnover rate-so the skin looks younger for longer.
Exfoliation is an integral part of skin care. The shedding of dead skin cells and the formation of the new ones is a constant process. A healthy skin renews itself totally in about 28 days, but can take as long as up to 6 week if NOT taken care of. The shedding of dead cells encourages the turnover of healthy new ones. With age the process of self renewal slows down (a babies skin renews itself every 6 DAYS). This leads to a buildup of dead cells on the outer layer. The skin acquires a dull tone, the texture becomes rough and the skin's capacity of absorb products becomes significantly less (which means that fabulous expensive serum you have is barely penetrating your skin to reap the benefits!). Cellular buildup on the outer layer can also occur due to various other reasons. Removal of the dead epithelial cells helps to accelerate the production of new cells.

Some Snafu's along the way.....

As with most moves, not everything goes as planned, In this case, I personally moved to the areawith my 2 children, so we had a bigger load to bear (and move) in this case. Let's just say if anything could go wrong...it DID go wrong. Trailers were late, movers were late, phone transfer issues, and an entriely new system and staff had to relearn many basic day to day activities including myself. We made every attempt to have online orders move out same day, but our shipping providers changed, and doing business in now 2 states complicated things. Call it growing pains, but I was more frustrated about how nit affected our loyal customers. The good news is, we are almost 100% settled! Please be patient with us- we promise it will be worth it!

The Beginning of the 2010 Season

We LOVE doing everyday looks, especially since we’re all about helping the everyday woman get the look she aspires to achieve. But it’s oh-so-fun glamming it up every once in a while!

On the field and off, events, photo shoots, appearances and their exclusive calendar shoot! And now we can bring to you the insider scoop on what it’s really like to be an NFL Cheerleader!

The season begins ......

With auditions in March, veterans and newbies alike all have to go through the same process. There’s a dance routine to be learned, and of course, the Jills “Look” must be learned and worn at auditions. The girls attended “pre-audition” meetings at the Niagara Falls Conference Center where they learned about the organization, what a Buffalo Jill is and what she stands for, choreography, and other information regarding the enormous commitment and community events. This helps them determine if being a Jill is right for them, and prepare for the actual audition.

Me explaining how Ferro will be helping them this season and how fabulous our mineral makeup is for their skin especially when wearing alot of makeup every week.

There also was a choreography recap held at Gold’s Gym in Williamsville, which gave the girls extra time to really nail down the choreography before the big audition and work with the pom poms.

We attended these pre-audition events the first week so we could familiarize ourselves with the expectations of the Jills, and since this is the organizations first Makeup Sponsor- and our first year officially sponsoring NFL cheerleaders- we needed to hear all about what’s expected from the girls’ appearance and image wise. We’ve worked with other cheerleading squads both big and small such as the Buffalo Bandits Lacrosse cheerleaders Buffalo Bandettes and Envi Allstars- a competition squad for girls, and now we’re working with the NFLCheerleaders!

So, exactly what IS the look?

Pretty and glam, and Ferro’s making it easy to achieve and gentle on their skin.

False lashes- really make the eyes pop from far away and even closeup if applied correctly. We'll be teaching them eye lining techniques that will hide the lash seam line and ensure a natural look.

Red red lips. Finding the right red is difficult, but done correctly, is a stunning and simple way to add some color to your look without alot on the face and eyes.

AUDITION DAY

The girls were nervous, and even I was nervous!

I set up a mini makeup studio behind the public curtain and offered my services complimentary to the girls, just to give them some extra confidence by ensuring they looked as best as they could. I remember auditioning many years ago when I was a dancer for theme parks, Disney, and dinner theatre, so I related to their jitters in a big way.

Tattoos are a no no for a Jill in her attire......

and very difficult to cover on the body normally, but I mixed Ultimate Mineral Foundation (in a shade that best matched her body’s skin tone) into a light creamy serum by Biothique (organic and made in France, available at www.Upurea.com) and dabbed the creamy mixture !over the tattoo with the Concealer Brush to completely cover (and it sure did). The girls were judged by a panel of people NOT part of the Jills regular team of directors, so there was no room for favoritism of any kind. They each were judged with score cards based on what the organization looks for in a Jill, but the panel did not know the girls or work with them previously, so it was all very professional and very fair. One of the judges won his seat as a winner of a 97 Rock contest!

The day ended with many tears of those who were cut, and many cheers from those who made it, and The final team was announced last week! Practice starts right away, with their first big event being the calendar photo shoot in Jamaica!

All of us at Ferro have a busy calendar ourselves, with April getting to know all the girls and doing pre-photo shoots to help prepare the ones who are going to Jamaica.

We'll keep you all informed of the fun happenings with the NFL cheerleaders. I personally was always so curious about the life and events of being an NFL cheerleader, and now having the honor of being involved, it's even more exciting to be a part of.

CONCEALING UNDER THE EYES WITH FERRO COSMETICS MINERAL FOUNDATION

Concealing the under eye area is a great way to brighten the eyes and freshen your look. Even if you’re one of the lucky ones in which dark circles don’t exist, still, using an under eye concealer gives you that professional look everyone loves.

So how does one conceal using mineral makeup?

Probably the biggest question we get at this time of year as winter vacations are more common. Let’s face it- it’s been a brutal winter! But even if you’re not planning a fabulous vacation- what about a business trip, long weekend, or just an overnight stay? • SCOTCH TAPE- Lightly moisten a tissue with rubbing alcohol (because it evaporates so quickly) and clean the sifter top. Make sure the surface is dry, and cover all the holes with scotch tape, then close lid.

• SARAN WRAP/CLING WRAP- Apply a piece over the mouth of the jar while the lid is off, then close the lid tightly. You can also wrap each jar in Saran Wrap to catch any implosions during flight from spilling into your bag.

• ZIPLOCK BAGGIES- Keep Eye Candy Mineral Eye Shadows and eye makeup brushes in one bag, Face brushes and mineral makeup products like foundations, bronzers and veils in another bag. You can even separate the brushes from the mineral makeup as well for extra spillage protection. You don’t want that silver eye shadow in your mineral foundation brush, so it’s best to keep everything separate.

KRISSY’S PACKING SYSTEM

Whenever I travel, I always have my own personal mineral makeup stash- PLUS my complete makeup kit, and that’s a lot of mineral makeup jars! I don’t have time to invest in a long process, especially with over 100 jars of mineral makeup, so here’s my personal travel system:

My personal Makeup Bag:

I travel with full sizes AND Mini’s. First I Tighten every lid very tightly, then I grab my box of Ziploc bags, and put the following groups in separate bags: eye makeup brushes, face makeup brushes, foundations and veils, Blush X3/Glows, Eye Candy & Mascara.

When I ARRIVE: I tap each jar on a counter to settle any loose minerals back down into the sifter.

Makeup Kit: Tighten all lids, then stack my foundations in short stacks and wrap tightly with saran wrap (a total of 24 foundation shades). Cotton Balls go in all Blush X3 and Glow Bronzers since they are pigmented, which helps me more with applications later when I get into my kit. All my most used Eye Candy shades get 2 small cotton balls per jar and saran wrapped, the rest of the shades I simply tighten lids and put them in baggies.

A travel pack of baby wipes is always helpful for quick makeup removal, cleaning eye shadow brushes between colors, and wiping down any spillage that may have broken through.

Loving You Day

Friday July 10th was Loving You Day at the Buffalo City Mission, Cornerstone Manor – Woman & Children’s Shelter. This was the day that we were able to donate tons of makeup raised though our “Throw and Glow” program at our store. Thank you to all of our customers who have helped make this event possible.

When we arrived, we were greeted with excitement and smiles right off the bat. We knew it would be a great day when we hopped into the elevator with about 4 women who live at the shelter and they proceeded to make US laugh and smile all the way down to the bottom floor. Yes…a one floor elevator ride and we were laughing with them already.

Krissy began by speaking to the ladies who all gave her their undivided attention; about what led her to where she is right now, about the makeup, and answered any questions they had. Then they were called up two by two and Krissy and Tracey matched their foundation for them, while I pulled the foundation from our supply and gave them their gift bags. The day before, I had put the bags together with Blush, Glow, Eye Candy, applicators and coupons, it worked out well.

During the matching, we took some pictures and had the pleasure of meeting some great and dedicated people such as Mike Smith and Dr. Laura, who opened our day with prayer and is seen here applying our makeup to Mike. That was a highlight, all the ladies loved that! Thanks for coming Mike.

We feel so blessed to have been just a short part of one day with this great organization and these people. Hopefully we have touched someone enough to make a difference in a life.

Health groups push Johnson & Johnson on 'toxic' chemicals

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CSC) and 40 other charitable organizations have delivered a letter to Johnson & Johnson (J&J) calling for the removal of ‘toxic’ ingredients from its products.

Signed by groups such as the American Nurses Association and Physicians for Social Responsibility, the letter urges J&J to remove formaldehyde and 1, 4-dioxane from its personal care products by the end of 2009.

Letter singles out J&J
In March the CSC raised the alarm about these ingredients, linking them to cancer and skin allergies, and pointed the finger at several leading personal care manufacturers, including J&J.

Now the campaigners have singled out J&J. Lisa Archer, national coordinator of the CSC, said: “There is no excuse for a baby shampoo marketed as ‘the number one choice of hospitals’ to contain chemicals that are suspected of causing cancer.

“As a manufacturer of trusted brands, Johnson & Johnson has a responsibility to remove carcinogens and other hazardous chemicals from its products.”

CSC said other companies are making similar products without potentially hazardous ingredients, and, in Japan, where formaldehyde is banned from cosmetics J&J is already making formaldehyde-free products.

The campaigners therefore argue that J&J should be able to reformulate its products easily to remove any potentially suspect ingredients.

Reaction from J&J
In an interview with Associated Press, J&J spokesperson Bill Price said the company takes the concerns about its products “very seriously” but has no immediate plans to remove the ingredients highlighted by the CSC. He said many regulatory agencies around the world consider the trace levels of these ingredients in its products to be safe.

The CSC report on baby care products has had a significant political impact.

Three lawsuits have been filed against J&J and other companies named in the CSC report. And earlier this month, US senator Kristen Gillibrand introduced “The Safe Baby Products Act” calling for tighter controls and regulations on the ingredients that go into baby care products.

Loving You

This month we had the pleasure of meeting two fabulous ladies from the Buffalo City Mission, Cornerstone Manner Women and Children’s Shelter. Aubrey and Ebony came to help us plan our donation to the shelter. They are planning a special day at the shelter called “Loving You” where we will present our products to the special ladies there through an uplifting workshop we’ll be doing with all of them.

The workshop will be a combination of inspirational messages about how to value their inner beauty and importance in this world, as well as how to feel instantly beautiful by teaching them makeup techniques that they will be able to use for a lifetime. Each woman will leave with a gift bag of Ferro Cosmetics products, which we have been collecting in our ongoing in store “Throw-N-Glow” promotion.

Through the program that we created called “Throw & Glow”, we are able to donate over 120 full size Ferro Cosmetics products to the Women and Children’s Shelter. Our customers have been bringing in their makeup products, throwing them out in our poisonous trash can, and receiving a discount on new Ferro Cosmetics products. For every product thrown away, we donate a brand NEW Ferro Cosmetics mineral makeup product.
We'll be creating 60 gift bags filled with full size products for the entire face, for every woman in the program.

Confidence is a powerful tool in life, and one that we all struggle with some times in our life. But hardships in life can affect our confidence even more, and we want to help encourage and empower these very wonderful, strong, beautiful women to be the best they can be, and go after what they deserve. An astounding 1/3 of our women find a safe haven at Cornerstone Manner from domestic violence situations. You must first learn to love yourself so that you can forgive yourself and begin to make positive changes that reflect such love. Personalize Your Mineral Makeup Application

Today is a chill-out day, but tonight is a glam night, and tomorrow you’re on the most important interview of your career. How does a gal switch her look without switching products and colors? It’s all in the application baby!

Easily switch from soft and natural to an airbrushed finish, minimal coverage to full out coverage, with the flick (and switch) of your makeup brush and the way you use it. Yep, it’s just that easy!

Moisturize Moisturize Moisturize!!
Before you sweep, swirl, swish, or stroke anything on that gorgeous face of yours, be sure to cleanse and moisturize with the proper (and chemical free) products geared for your skin type. Ferro Cosmetic’s concentrated mineral makeup will glide on effortlessly and evenly. Plus you need a lot less to do the job!

Eau Natural (Chill Out Day)
Ok, so no one needs to know you didn’t roll out of bed THAT gorgeous.
But to achieve the most natural effect, less is more, and Matte is best.

FOUNDATION
The Brush: Flawless Face Brush
The Reason: Minimal product is applied to the face due to the loose, soft bristles of this brush holding less product than our traditional foundation brushes (Fabuki, Flat Top). Lightly sweep over T-zone applies BOTH Radiance and Ultimate Foundations easily
The Result: A light application of our minerals leaves a shine-free, fresh looking face.

CHEEK COLOR
Eau Natural is all about looking like you are wearing nothing at all (on your face that is), so keep the color minimal. A very light application with minimal product in your brush is all you need, and if you’re already using these products, you can even use what’s left in your brush from a previous application. Here are a few quickie tips for a quick dose of healthy color:
Lighter to medium skin tones can use Ferro’s Crystal (dewy finish) or Matte Mineral Veil in AMBER, applying everywhere the sun would hit the face (cheekbones, forehead, nose, chin) for a simple sheer wash of color using the Flawless Face Brush.
Glow Bronzers in your “season” shade (the Glow shades are named by season to dictate tone and depth, Winter Kiss a pale bronzy peach, Summer Kiss a rich bronze), applied everywhere the sun would hit, or on just cheeks.
Blush X only in apples of your cheeks, for a simple flush of color. Or, ADD Blush X3 in a berry shade (like Berrylicious or Merlot) to the Amber Veil or Glow color wash

FINISH
Use your Glow Bronzer or Blush X3 and apply on pre-moistened lips, finish with gloss, and now your lips are truly ready for anything or nothing. A couple coats of chemical free mascara, and you’re good to go!

GLAMAZON
Uh oh, now you’re thinking it’s time to call in the pro’s or go get a professional application for the Glam look…..but before you break out in a cold sweat, you can relax, because the same techniques apply for a more defined, glamorous look!
The Difference
Switching brushes, applying more layers to get more coverage and depth in the shades, al makes for a more glam look, without looking like you’re trying.

FOUNDATION
The Brush: Flat Top Foundation Brush
The Reason: Applies more product to the face in less time and requiring less layers. The flat surface easily fits inside the lid preventing spillage over the sides like Kabuki brushes often do (Ferro’s Fabuki’s are slightly smaller for less mess than traditional kabuki’s), applies our mineral foundation evenly, and gives full coverage when applied to the entire face using Ultimate Foundation.
The Result: A full coverage application of our minerals using less time, less mess, and leaves a shine-free, fresh looking face.

CHEEK COLOR
This is where some confusion may happen, because Glamming it up doesn’t mean more of everything. One of the benefits of using Ferro’s minerals is that it looks natural, so you DO want to see more color here over the Natural look, but you don’t need a heavy hand.
Use the Eau Natural cheek tips, but for Glamming it up, use more color.
Apply a richer Glow Bronzer like Autumn Kiss or Summer Kiss UNDER cheekbones for definition, a dash on forehead and chin, followed by a slightly heavier dose of Blush X3 in apples of cheeks.
ALWAYS FINISH with Matte or Crystal Mineral Veil in your appropriate shade. It will mute cheek color without covering it, and will give a finish similar to a soft focused lens. Usually when the teacher today is a substitute, the parents are gone for the weekend, or the boss is out of town, everyone is usually
1. Screaming “YAY!”
2. Excited about doing less work (or homework)
3. Feeling relief that the prying eyes of the bossman (or bosslady) have offered a temporary reprieve.
But in the case of the Team at Ferro Cosmetics, PLAY has taken on a new meaning, and it’s pretty Fabulous actually.

Myself, or the Cat in this instance, will be away for the entire week, something I’ve yet to do since the birth of Ferro Cosmetics, and even before it had a name. It’s a trip that I’m excited to take, because I always try to mix in fun in all my business trips, which usually is not hard! This month however has been a very busy month, and adding TWO out of town trips makes things even crazier! Earlier this month, I was in Miami (aww darn right?) sponsoring the fabulous talent and hosts of GIRL’S NIGHT OUT TV, where we also filmed a segment on how to use Ferro Cosmetics Mineral Makeup and different maeup tips and tricks.

Monday at the crack of dawn (literally! My mom works at the airport at 3am, and my flight is the first flight out on her airline United Airlines), I’ll be heading to sunny LA. My trip entails seeing one of my dearest friends Carrie Stevens, and having the honor of doing makeup on some pretty fabulous women for her online “Green” fashion magazine Envi-Image (www.greenyourimage.com) . Carrie’s photo shoot this time will feature Celebrity Apprentice’s BRANDE RODERICK, the gorgeous and very smart blonde still in the running to win.

I’ll also be learning about a hot new organic spray tan system by Spray de Sole, which is going to be a new service we offer at our Corporate Boutique in Buffalo, NY. One of aspects of my training is to learn it well enough to come back and train my staff, so I’ll have to spray tan several women. In this case, they happen to be playmates, which is always a blast working with them. I’m excited to get the hands on experience, especially because sometimes I miss doing the services I used to do for years when I was a salon owner and stylist.
Amidst all that, Carrie and I are working together on a fabulous project that will be released later this year, so we’ll be brainstorming on that project, and simply hanging out. I will really miss my two boys, but it will be great to be around Carrie’s son, who’s the same age as my little guy Danny, so it will soften the sting a little bit. I’ve never been away from my boys more than a few days!

Soooo, about that Mice playing while the Cat’s away thing……

My fabulous 2 right hands Kelly and Kristen decided to turn playing into planning! My girls Kelly and Kristen totally rock…..because they’re planning a fun open house event in our Boutique, inviting all their friends and family while I’m away. This is no small feat, because I am always there for any/all big events! All I can say is if they can do this, they can do anything! And I know that they’ll do great!

One of the great hilites of the event is something we started early this year called THROW-N-GLOW, it’s a great WIN-WIN for everyone! We contributed our Pure, Fabulous Mineral Makeup to 200 VIP Gift Bags for the TV Industry at the first and only eco-friendly lounge in New York City, Greenhouse. In collaboration with the ANB Mall (all natural beauty mall) an online beauty mall who provided a beautiful, recycled and reusable lime green bag filled with 8 organic beauty products. This was one ‘little green bag’ that was a hit with all that received one.

Eight mall store owners added individual products to each bag, which included sunscreen, mineral makeup, face serum, soap, hand and body cream, hair conditioner, and lip balm. These bags were truly fit for a VIP, and were a beautiful representation of the wonders of all-natural beauty care. Hello Fabulous Readers,

We haven’t posted in a while, but for very good reason…we’ve been really busy! Seriously, we have so many things going on here at Ferro Cosmetics that we’ve put the blog to the side, hence putting YOU, our readers aside. Obviously we don’t want to do that and we are going to make a conscious effort to write more and keep you informed on what we have going on around here.

Where can I begin? Well for starters, I wanted to give a great big THANK YOU to our very generous community for stepping up and “trashing” their old makeup to benefit Buffalo City Mission – Woman and Children’s Center. We haven’t actually donated our brand new Ferro products yet, because we want to make it a very special event where we can go and personally give it to the women there and see the joy in their faces. But the old products keep coming in and that just means more for them. We can’t wait!!

We are currently working on some other great things that I can’t quite tell you about yet, but stay tuned… what an awesome year 2009 will be!!

On a final note, I wanted to share an experience I had the other day on a personal level with you. My role here at Ferro Cosmetics is to keep things running smoothly, behind the scenes. That’s where I like to be, because that’s just me. Although if I’m the only one here and a customer comes in I will do all I can to educate and help them choose the right products, and sometimes do a “color match”. I usually stay away from the full out makeup application, due to the fact that I am not a professional makeup artist.

Anyway, last week, our makeup artist stepped out to grab a bite to eat, and of course, in come a mother and daughter looking for…you guessed it, a makeup application. Although, I was panicking on the inside, I wanted to help them and make them feel comfortable, you see the daughter had severe acne and that was clearly the main purpose of their visit. I guided them to the rear of our boutique where we have our makeover counter and she sat in the stool. Now I know from personal experience that mineral makeup is an awesome thing and covers almost every imperfection and blemish, but I was worried because of the severity her acne that it just wouldn’t cut it for her. I picked the shade I thought would work best for her, and started to apply it to her otherwise cute little face… I was amazed, it was working, and covering like magic.

When our makeup artist walked in, she said “Kel, do you need any help with anything”, and normally I would have said “yes please” and would have been happy to step aside and see the final product, but something made me want to stay and help her, so I replied, “No, I’m ok, thanks”. I finished, and let her check it out in the mirror. Her reaction was everything that I was hoping for. She said to her mom “oh, I wish I had this for the job fair the other day”.

That comment in and of itself was enough for me to know that ONE, I can apply some makeup if necessary, but more importantly and even more gratifying is that our mineral makeup is pretty awesome and the fact that it might give this young girl the confidence that she’s been lacking is such a great thing. But then a few minutes later while they were looking around for some brushes, I over heard her say to her mom, “finally mom, there is hope!” I almost cried right then and there! Wow, I can handle being nervous every day if that’s the outcome!!!

BE PREPARED
Prepare you say? Yes, we say prepare, because it’s the lack of the right tools, or a mish mosh makeup drawer that will eat your time like a hungry dieter. Keeping your beauty arsenal organized along with the right tools, like high quality makeup brushes will make getting out the door a lot quicker. Here are a few tips that are a cinch to keep you prepared.

1.) KEEP IT NEAT
Most of us have day looks and night looks. Even the fashion industry, who can push the envelope a bit more with more drama during the day, still have day and night transition looks, so organize yourself in that way. Bag, drawer, or purse, you need to separate everything neatly and make it easily reachable. Try using sock drawer organizers in your drawer, or separate makeup bags, and delegate a space for each look. Grab a cute vase to use as a space for your daily essentials that cross over from day to night….like mascara and eyeliner. Whatever you do, don’t put electric blue mascara in your essentials group. Items such as mascara, brown and black liner and maybe makeup remover are all that should occupy that space.

2.) GET THE RIGHT WEAPONS
We’re talking makeup brushes! If you want to look like your face was done by a pro, or even close to it, you need to use what the pros use and that’s makeup brushes. Most importantly your makeup will apply effortlessly, colors are truer, the look is fabulous and they last for many many years. Keep your brushes in a pretty jar next to your color arsenal for easy reach. Wash them every 2 weeks with baby shampoo and lay flat to dry and you’ll have these tools for years to come. Mineral makeup is all about brushes for the best application and performance since they are all loose powders, but even traditional makeup will perform better as well. Brushes made from high quality sable, goat and pony hair are great for almost every brush. Taklon, a synthetic bristle, works great for foundation and concealer brushes. If you can’t afford to get them all at once, start with just a few.

3.) DUMP THE OLD
That mascara you never use, the foundation you splurged on that just doesn’t match, and that broken favorite brown eye shadow needs to go! Mascaras should be dumped every 4 months, along with most eye products. Face colors have a shelf life of 12 months, and if you keep it around any longer than that you’re not using it enough….so dump it! It’s always fun to clean house and replace with new fresh colors and products, so if it’s going to give you a slight tightening of the chest to dump it, shop for their replacements first.

READY….SET…..GO!
You're organized, you're late, and you're still gonna look FAB! Ready? Start the clock!

1.) CONCEAL: 60 seconds
FOR A LIFTED ILLUMINATED FACE: Apply our Ultimate Foundation 2 shades lighter than your skin tone under your eyes to cover circles and illuminate your eyes and also on the sides of your nose. This application is brightening shadowed areas of the face as well as concealing redness commonly found in these areas.
FOR A FLAWLESS COMPLEXION: Using your Concealer Brush, dab your brush into our Ultimate Foundation to cover breakouts, absorb impurities and reduce inflammation all day. (Hint: NEVER use a lighter tone to cover breakouts or redness; it calls more attention to those problem areas.

2.) FOUNDATION: 30 seconds
Grab your palette or lid, sprinkle your foundation of choice (Ultimate or Radiance) into the lid/palette and apply with your favorite Fabuki or Long Handle Flat Top Brush, beginning from the jaw line and work inward over your entire face, or to desired areas (Several light layers are better than one quick heavy layer). Don’t forget your lids to remove shine and cover redness.

3.) CHEEKS : 15 seconds
Smile! Absorb cheek minerals into your Flawless Face Brush, tap off excess and apply to apples of cheeks as you smile. Blend upwards towards temple, swipe across forehead and chin for a Ferro fabulous natural glow.

4.) EYES: 60 seconds
SHADOW: Using your favorite shadow brush, apply a neutral color from lid to brow on both eyes, ensuring to tap off excess from your brush to prevent falling onto cheeks. To add depth, apply a richer shade into creases.
LINE WITH MINERALS: Using a liner brush, dampen brush with our Eyeliner Sealer or water and add your favorite eyeliner color, trace top of lash line, extending slightly past edge of eye. Use the same color dry under the eye for a bit more richness while still keeping it soft. To add more drama, make the edge line thicker and extend further outward.

5.) FINISH : 10 Seconds
Dust over entire face or desired areas with Crystal Mineral Veil for an illuminated glow .or Matte Mineral Veil for a soft, diffused airbrushed look.

Rice Powder (Kosher):

Used for centuries by Asian women for its healing, soothing properties. Rice Powder is a lightweight, translucent powder known for its cleansing properties. It also absorbs excess oils on the face for a shine-free finish and makes skin silky smooth. Helps powders set for long-lasting results.

Zinc Oxide:

Natural element that is insoluble in water, which makes poolside application possible. A great sunscreen protects or shields skin from harmful UVA and UVB exposure, it also exhibits anti-bacterial properties.

Magnesium Stearate Powder:

Fine, natural alkaline is used to improve the endurance of mineral makeup, so products last longer and require fewer applications.

Silica:

A mineral found all over the planet- in sandstone, clay, granite, even in plants and animals! It is the main ingredient in glass, it is an oil absorbent , it improves "slip" (how the product feels going on). Because of their spherical shape our Silica's also scatter light and blur the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Silica is extremely absorbent, keeping oily skin at bay.

Mica:

Pure Silk Powder:

Silk is a natural moisture-adjusting product which can absorb or release moisture as the temperature and humidity change. It is also a powder which "breathes." Silk contains 18 amino acids which are easily absorbed into the skin. Silk both reflects and absorbs UV rays.

Iron Oxide:

Used in mineral makeup to create desired pigments, especially for products that offer various skin tone range. Iron Oxide is non-toxic, moisture resistant and prevents mineral makeup from bleeding.

Boron Nitrate:

A natural, inert, high-end mineral that has a soft, silky effect. It's a silky white mineral powder and is used as an additive to improve the "slip" of a product (how smoothly the product applies) as well as an "adhesion" (how long it stays on the skin). Our unique Boron ingredient has a hexagonal molecular shape, reflecting light from skin in ways other minerals cannot. Can add subtle shimmer or matte finish without being dull or the use of shimmery glitter.

Titanium Dioxide:

Highest light reflecting substance on planet earth second only to diamonds. Oil and water soluble ultra-pure powder results in a natural finish. It functions mainly as a white pigment with high refractive properties that shield skin from harmful UV rays and resists discoloration of the skin.

Calcium Carbonate:

A naturally occurring and found in chalk, limestone, marble and travertine. Eggshells are 95% Calcium Carbonate. In cosmetics, Calcium Carbonate makes a great absorber in foundations, primers and finishing powders.

Pearl Powder:

A beauty and health secret used for 1000's of years in Asia. Absorption of our Authentic Pearl Powder is considered positive because the product contains 31% Calcium and 56% Protein as well as an assortment of amino acids. This is believed by some the be good for bone development, and to promote healthy, lustrous skin.

Serecite:

It is an inert, stable inorganic mineral which feels silky to the touch and reflects light, reducing the appearance of pores and wrinkles. Sericite offers sheen and slip. It is not as shimmery as other options, such as Bismuth Oxychloride, which makes it a great alternative for those who itch or dislike the extreme shimmer and shine from Bismuth Oxychloride. Serecite does not irritate the skin.

Tint your favorite daily moisturizer:

This is perfect for a day you don't want to leave the house bare faced but don't have the time to apply a face full of mineral makeup.

Using your Ferro Cosmetics Mixing Palette, mix together your Ultimate or Radiance Foundation with your favorite daily moisturizer. Start with one part foundation and two parts moisturizer; add foundation until you reach your desired shade. When applied to the face you are left with a light, barely there shade of foundation.

For an Event:

If you want to keep it simple use a shimmer gold shadow with a neutral lip gloss. We recommend using Bling-A-Ding, 10 Carats or 24 Carats Shimmer Eye Candy (mineral eye shadow.)

Want to make a statement? To achieve a more dramatic look apply our 3N1 Eye Candy to line your eyes. With your Ferro Cosmetics Mixing Palette pour a small amount of your favorite 3N1 Eye Candy shade and mix in a small amount of water. Using your Liner Brush mix until you reach the shade desired. Apply as a liner and let dry for a few seconds (this technique is called foiling.) You are left with dramatic eyes and are ready to hit the town!

Hello Fabulous Readers,

We want to take this great blogging opportunity to introduce our company to you. Let's start right at the beginning by introducing Krissy Ferro, Founder and President. Let me just tell you in one word...SASSY! She has created, formulated, and mixed this company into what it is today with her family supporting and encouraging her all the way. In her mind it's not her company, it's everyone that helps her.

Our goals and missions here are not to drive pink Cadillacs or white Mercedes, we truly want to teach women and teen girls about the harmful ingredients that are put into other popular makeup brands because it's easy, cheap and NOT regulated by the US government. When we started doing serious research about it, we were disgusted by what we uncovered.

We are currently working feverishly to find ways to reach more ladies and teach more people about the dangers of certain chemicals all while staying as "green" and eco-friendly as possible. It's hard but we are having so much fun doing what we do!

Along with Krissy is myself (Hi, I'm Kelly) and Stacey. Commonly referred to in the office as Stelly, we are the duo who try to keep things running smoothly and remembering appointments among many other things! We all get along so well, when we get on a roll laughing it's hard to stay on task. That's where Arnie steps in (Krissy's Dad and partner). Although, he's way out-numbered and usually ends up laughing along with us anyway!!
