TRAVELING WITH YOUR MINERAL MAKEUP
Krissy Ferro

Probably the biggest question we get at this time of year as winter vacations are more common. Let’s face it- it’s been a brutal winter! But even if you’re not planning a fabulous vacation- what about a business trip, long weekend, or just an overnight stay? The purity and skin benefits of mineral makeup are well worth the ummm, well, it can get a little messy huh?

What usually makes the mess is the air pressure changes during flight. One of my celebrity photo shoots with Brande Roderick from last season’s “Celebrity Apprentice” was also one of the messiest! I was very embarrassed to open my kit to find 3 jars tops blew completely off, and yep you guessed it- ALL OVER every single jar (over 100) and every makeup brush. Not to mention we were outside on a beach on the Pacific Ocean, and I had a major mess to clean up! Luckily she was very nice, and I quickly cleaned off what I needed and did a Fab makeover. Needless to say- That was the last time I traveled without preparing!

So how can you travel with your full arsenal of 100% pure fabulous mineral makeup???
We have a few suggestions that really rock traveling with your rocks!

FERRO’S OWN UNIQUE MINI’S

Many women don’t know that Ferro Cosmetics is one of the only cosmetics lines that carries a miniature version of each product! They come in a small jar, fully packaged, and jammed with up to a full gram of product (depending on the product)! Mini’s are great because on their own they last weeks, so you typically have more than enough mineral makeup to last your entire, long weekends, and definitely overnights. They are also FAB because:
AFFORDABLE! JUST $5 EACH!! Mini’s are priced so affordable, you can easily get your entire look for about 20 bucks, simply duplicating the mineral makeup shades you already have- but just in a Mini size! Easy peasy!
Grab your 5 Piece Purse Pack on ferrocosmetics.com for $19.95 and get your entire travel kit customized By you and FOR you!
• SMALLER JARS=LESS SPILLAGE!
• PERFECTLY MATCH YOUR TAN! If you’re going somewhere warm in the dead of winter- chances are your skin tone is going to change a few shades darker within a matter of days. Who wants to invest in full size mineral makeup (or worse toxic oily makeup in the gift shop) on TEMPORARY darker shades that will only sit in your drawer after vacation is over? Get a few mini’s in darker shades! You can use only what you need, mix different shades together, and easily transition with the perfect shade as your tan fades back to your natural tone.
• SMALL AND EASY TO CARRY! Don’t be fooled by their small size- there’s plenty of product inside them, but Mini’s are small enough to throw in the smallest of purses.
• FINALLY WEAR THOSE FUN COLORS! We all have that inner wild side, and it usually comes out on vacation. You’re not at the office so you can wear that Sage Green, rich blue Sapphire Smoke, or glimmer on your cheeks with our Glow Bronzers! Try something new without breaking the bank!
• AIRPORT SECURITY FRIENDLY! No liquids here, so Mini’s and even full sized Ferro Cosmetics Mineral Makeup passes through security in all airports- NO Ziploc bag required!
• SUN PROTECTION! Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide (those white noses on the beach) are the active ingredients in sun screen. A typical SPF 15 has 3% Zinc OR Titanium. Our foundations contain over 25% of BOTH ingredients, making it a toxic free way of protecting your skin.

HOW TO PACK YOUR MINERAL MAKEUP
Weather you have Mini’s or full size mineral makeup jars; there still is that issue of minerals coming up through the sifter and laying all in the top of the jar. Air pressure changes while flying, bags being flung around, and all the other movements of your bags can make mineral makeup a disaster to travel with if you don’t pack it correctly. Here’s some quickie easy ways to pack it using things you already have in your home!

• COTTON BALLS- Stick a few in top of the sifter, enough so there is little room left, and then close the jar. The cotton balls help minimize overspill by eliminating any empty space for them to spill into.

• SCOTCH TAPE- Lightly moisten a tissue with rubbing alcohol (because it evaporates so quickly) and clean the sifter top. Make sure the surface is dry, and cover all the holes with scotch tape, then close lid.

• SARAN WRAP/CLING WRAP- Apply a piece over the mouth of the jar while the lid is off, then close the lid tightly. You can also wrap each jar in Saran Wrap to catch any implosions during flight from spilling into your bag.

• ZIPLOCK BAGGIES- Keep Eye Candy Mineral Eye Shadows and eye makeup brushes in one bag, Face brushes and mineral makeup products like foundations, bronzers and veils in another bag. You can even separate the brushes from the mineral makeup as well for extra spillage protection. You don’t want that silver eye shadow in your mineral foundation brush, so it’s best to keep everything separate.
KRISSY’S PACKING SYSTEM
Whenever I travel, I always have my own personal mineral makeup stash- PLUS my complete makeup kit, and that’s a lot of mineral makeup jars! I don’t have time to invest in a long process, especially with over 100 jars of mineral makeup, so here’s my personal travel system:
My personal Makeup Bag:
I travel with full sizes AND Mini’s. First I Tighten every lid very tightly, then I grab my box of Ziploc bags, and put the following groups in separate bags: eye makeup brushes, face makeup brushes, foundations and veils, Blush X3/Glows, Eye Candy & Mascara.
When I ARRIVE: I tap each jar on a counter to settle any loose minerals back down into the sifter.

Makeup Kit: Tighten all lids, then stack my foundations in short stacks and wrap tightly with saran wrap (a total of 24 foundation shades). Cotton Balls go in all Blush X3 and Glow Bronzers since they are pigmented, which helps me more with applications later when I get into my kit. All my most used Eye Candy shades get 2 small cotton balls per jar and saran wrapped, the rest of the shades I simply tighten lids and put them in baggies.
A travel pack of baby wipes is always helpful for quick makeup removal, cleaning eye shadow brushes between colors, and wiping down any spillage that may have broken through.

If YOU have any great tips for traveling- send ‘em in! We love to hear about your tips so we can share them with other Ferro lovers!
HAPPY AND SAFE TRAVELS!
